Daniel is three-eighths Scottish. He has been to Scotland, but that was before he was introduced to Malt!
Glenmorangie 10 year-old was his first taste, followed by a Lagavulin 16 year-old.
He came to his first tasting at Regional back in 1995 and became hooked when he saw the array of bottled malts in Michael Jackson’s book.
Grant Jones thought he’d throw Daniel in the deep end, persuading him to host an Isle of Islay night with nine malts and 32 people – the tasting room was smaller back then too!
Fourteen years later, the Whisky Tasting programme is still going strong.
Daniel’s favourite whisky we’ve had here is old-style Springbank 25 year-old; the oldest – the Adelphi “Whisky that cannot be Named” 50 year-old; the most expensive – the Black Bowmore 1964 49% (now worth $7000); and the cheapest to win Best of the Best – the Aberlour Abunabh (was $75).
