Duncan Gillespie

With a Certificate in Viticulture, Wine and Food and a career in the liquor industry stretching back to 1996, Duncan has an impressive knowledge of all wines, ales and spirits. His time with Liquorland in Christchurch and Auckland and with our friend Kingsley Wood at First Glass Wines in Takapuna has seen Duncan work in a very broad range of activities besides retail and corporate sales, from shop refitting to running wine clubs and logistics at wine judging competitions. Duncan has an amazing repertoire of interests and passions apart from the mandatory love of wine and food. Being a mountain-biking and stunt-riding vegetarian has no restraint on his outlook, and he loves Spanish, Italian. Middle Eastern, Japanese cuisine, and like everybody, adores fine dining. His taste in drinks is just as varied and is currently enjoying 3 Boys Wheat beer, exploring the many faces of Syrah/Viognier blends, continues his addiction to German Rieslings and often relaxes with a Chambord Raspberry Liqueur mixed with Classic Dry Lemonade when he gets home after a long day! Music is a major part of Duncan’s life, and some of you will have boogied at a gig that ‘Dunc tha Funk’ DJ’d over the last ten years. Being ‘live’ is a thrill for Duncan, and he has been involved in radio broadcasting, theatre and acting for over a decade. Remember the man in ’stubby shorts’ in the L&P ads and the floral-dressed ‘Brucette’ in the old Tui beer promotions? – That’s our Duncan!
