Consumer New Zealand Summer Beer Feature

The current issue of Consumer Magazine includes the second ever Consumer New Zealand beer feature. As a follow on from the Winter Beer feature several years ago, Consumer New Zealand decided to focus this year’s feature on summer beer styles. The judging panel included Regional Beer Specialist Kieran Haslett-Moore, Regional Beer Consultant Geoff Griggs, Yeastie Boy Stu McKinlay, beer enthusiast and homebrew judge Tracy Fahle , Macs head brewer Alasdair Clem, and DB brewer Grant Pearson. Thirty seven beers were judged across the three broad categories of wheat beer, lager and pale ale. The top rating beers included Emerson’s 1812 & Pilsner, Epic Armageddon, Harrington’s Rogue Hop Pilsner, Croucher Hef, Macs Hop Rocker, Monteith’s Pilsner, and Three Boys Golden Ale. It’s great to see New Zealand Craft beer getting some serious coverage in the media and standing up under critical examination.
