As part of the Pinot Noir 2010 conference, Ager Sectus Wines
and Regional Beer Specialist Kieran Haslett-Moore
organized a craft beer tasting for wine makers, local and over seas media and
representatives of the trade. In attendance were wine writers from around the
world including renowned English wine writer Oz Clarke. The tasting marked a
fantastic opportunity to expose some of the key players in the wine world to
just what New Zealand
craft beer can offer.
Ten New Zealand Craft Beers were being tasted ranging from classics
from long established craft brewers like Emerson’s through to hot new releases from
contract brewers such as 8 Wired Brewing. The beers chosen to represent New Zealand craft brewing were
Epic Pale Ale, Emersons Pilsner, Croucher Hef, 3 Boys Wheat, Golden and Wild
Plum, Mussel Inn Captain Cooker, Renaissance Discovery, Renaissance Stonecutter
and 8 Wired Hopwired IPA.
Many of those in attendance were keen to talk beer and learn
about the flavours and aromas that were on display with more than a few walking
away with an altered perception of just what beer can offer.
