Golden Eagle is a new micro brewery
operating in Rolleston just out of Christchuch and is the creation of ex-pat
Englishman David Gaughan. Last week saw
the arrival of Golden Eagle South Island Pale Ale, a toasty hoppy pale with a
lovly NZ hop flavour. The beer was so popular that it has already sold out.
Luckily there is more on the way!
Also new in store over the last fortnight
we have Twisted Hop Red Zone Enigma. Enigma is the Twisted Hop Brew Pub’s annually
released Barley Wine. This year the beer has had an unexpectedly long
conditioning period having been stuck in the Twisted Hop which is currently
stranded within the Christchurch CBD Red Zone. Twisted Hop owners Martin
Bennett and Stephen Hardman finally gained access to the brewery long enough to
retrieve the beer on August 8th. This year’s brew is incredibly
fruity and complex with loads of marmalade, and berry fruit notes and a warming
smooth malt profile.
In the next the week we are expecting some
Liberty Never Go Back Imperial Oatmeal Stout. As with all Liberty brews this will be a case of grabbing
it while you can as the Brewery’s 100Litre batch never last long!
Also expected before Christmas we will have
the entire core range of Little Creatures beers available. While New Zealanders
have been able to enjoy the flagship Pale Ale for some years up until now the
Bright Ale, Rogers and Pilsner have not been imported into New Zealand.
