World Beer Cup 2010

The World Beer Cup has just been judged in Chicago. 179 judges from 26 counties, including Regional’s own Beer Consultant Geoff Griggs, judged 3330 beers. While almost all the winning beers are not available in New Zealand there were some notable results. Australian Gluten Free brewery O’brien’s achieved a Silver Medal for their Gluten Free Brown Ale. Asia Pacific Breweries who have a stake in Dominion Breweries achieved a Gold Medal for Tiger in the International Lager category. Californian Pale Ale brewer Firestone Walker took out the Champion Medium Sized Brewery Award. Ballast Point who until recently featured on the Regional shelves took out the Champion Small Brewery Award. Also of interest to Wellingtonians will be the 3 medals awarded to Japan’s Baird Brewing whose beers are imported by Hashigo Zake and the medal awarded to Scotland’s Brewdog which is imported by the Malthouse.
