This is a welcome return to New Zealand having been very
popular at Regional Wines in the past. ‘Trois Monts’ refers to three hills in
Flanders – Mont Noir, Mont Cassel and Mont de
Cats, strategically important to Ypres, thus saw
some of the heaviest fighting in the First World War. 3 Monts is a good example of a pale Biere de
Garde, pouring a mid gold with a fluffy white head. Fresh zesty hops give it a big nose, full of
citrus and hay notes. On the palate
there is a heap of grassy hop flavour, a sweet rich pale malt character and a
firm bitter finish. KH-M/RC July 09
