The following list is of the malts which were tasted over two nights and are listed in order of preference by our tasting group.
Nose: sweet maple, toasted marshmallows, banana lollies, pipe tobacco, bourbon wood, cheese, minerals, sand hit by lightning.
Palate: Cask! Sweet, interesting, caramel bourbon with balance.
Finish: Spicy wood, dries out, med/long
Nose: Wood smoke bonfire, old sherry, warm earth, plastic, herbs, an old cricket bat.
Palate: Smokey bourbon, with wooded rum, earthy, gunpowder, magnesium.
Finish: Sweet, salty, surges forth, warming, builds, smoke.
Nose: Sugary, soft, rubber, clover, musty wardrobe, honey, pencils, linen and pineapple lumps.
Palate: oily, soft, liquorice, Bill English.
Finish: Salt and spice, dry sand, shrug.
Nose: Petrol, solvent, rich, warm, vanilla biscuits, banana cake, powdery, leather, dry oak and a touch of mint.
Palate: Banana, hint of floral soap.
Finish: Salt, hint of smoke, flavour like palate but sharp, long.
Nose: Spicy, minerals, cocnut, bright salt, Springbanky, hint of floral soap, heather and flyspray, musty teddy bear, corriander, watercress, rum and glue.
Palate: Spicy, Springbanky, honey, alcohol, warming.
Finish: Peat, molasis, salt, dry, medium.
Nose: Scotland! Hint of the coast, caramel, earth, sweet liquorice, forest edge, mid age, herbs, sappy, dry bourbon, grassy, marshy, oily.
Palate: Zing, tonic, sappy, salt, sweet, bright, pleasant.
Finish: Tobacco, cheddar, salty, medium, hint of smoke.
Nose: Low alcohol, soft, fruit muslie bar with choc chips, mild, Xmas pudding, plums, chewing gum, young, bananas, sweet fruit.
Palate: Grimace, citrous, candy floss, floral soap, dirty water.
Finish: smoke, tang, jewelry polish, donuts, must, short.
