Wow, I have just realized what a great
selection of Single Malts we have on special for Christmas. We always have something with more interest than the same-old, same-old whiskies you see
on special elsewhere however our buyer, Dave, has really out-done himself this year.
From
the Lowlands we have the ever popular
Auchentoshan 12yo, gentle, round and smooth was $93.45 now $69.95.
The Highlands
provides us with the stonkingly good Aberlour Abunadh. This is a 19th-century-style whisky matured exclusively in Spanish oak
Oloroso sherry butts, then bottled at cask strength. Dark, luxurious and
powerful; a superb after-dinner malt. was $123.75 now
$99.95.
Next up is one of
my favourite distilleries, Springbank from Campbeltown. We have knocked $20.00
off the Springbank CV 46% now $69.95. CV stands for Chairman’s Vat and is
especially flavourful and retains the house style for which Springbank is so
noted.
The wonderful Isle
of Islay has three representatives this year. First up is the Bunnahabhain 12yo.
This is the lightest of the Islay malts but
has an elegance and delicacy not found elsewhere on the island. Wonderful stuff.
$72.45. Bowmore 12yo uses less peat than some on the island and a healthy
dollop of oloroso sherry cask for maturation. Bowmore, with its wonderful balance
is a great ‘all-rounder’ either as an aperitif or after dinner dram. $69.95.
Finally we have the big old smoky, Ardbeg 10yo 46% $84.95, classic Islay nose
of pungent peat smoke and sea spray that can make whisky beginners recoil in
horror but the rest of us love. A fantastic dram. (by the way, after much
discussion on what constitutes a dram, the conclusion is, that it is a measure
of whisky acceptable to both host and guest!)
So if you are looking for
a gift for a whisky lover this Christmas, we have the regions covered (unfortunately some won’t
be last too long so don’t dally!)
