Once home to 37 distilleries, Campbeltown on the Kintyre peninsula now only has three, of which Springbank is the most notable. Such is the individuality of the Campbeltown malts that they are designated a style and sub-region for Scottish whisky of its own. The single malts share a distinctive briny character with sweetness and great depth, and Springbank is the classic expression. Licensed to J & A Mitchell, the Springbank distillery is managed by Mr Hedley G Wright, the direct descendant of the founder. It remains one of the most traditional of distilleries, the whole production process occurring in house and on site, unusual in today’s world of whisky. Springbank undergoes a unique two and a half times distillation, and the 10 y.o. employs bourbon cask maturation to allow the complex style be expressed with great clarity. Due to demand following the Springbank 12 y.o. topping a prestigious tasting and being rated a ‘premiere grand cru classe’ Springbank was withdrawn from sale until stocks could be built up. The Springbank 10 y.o. represents a step up and consolidation for the distillery and has become extremely popular in its own right. Our buyer, David Conway has sourced an allocation of Springbank 10 y.o. at an extremely favourable price which has been passed on to you.
