The medal results from the 2010 New Zealand
International Wine Show, judged last week, have just been released. With
2107 entries, this was the second largest wine judging competition ever
held in this country. (The largest was
the 2008 judging of the NZIWS with 2273 wines entered.) There were 195 gold medals awarded, with 23
going to 2010 vintage Sauvignon Blanc, affirming the high quality of the
harvest. 28 golds were awarded to Pinot
Noir, 23 to Chardonnay and 13 to Pinot Gris.
As usual, Australia
dominated the heavyweight red wine classes, and adding to the truly
international flavour of the show, Champagnes,
Ports and Italian reds figured among the gold medal winners. The trophy awards will be announced at a
dinner on Saturday 18 September, as well as the unique ‘Legend of New Zealand
Wine’ presentation. Following are the
