The trophy awards for the 2009 Air N.Z. Wine Awards were announced last night at a black-tie dinner in Christchurch. It is gratifying to see many of the winners have already been recognised in other judgings, this consistency a sign of their true quality.
A special congratulations to Wim Julicher, Sue Darling and winemaker Outi Jakovirta of Julicher Estate for winning the trophy for Champion Wine of the Show with their 2008 Julicher Pinot Noir. They are not strangers to success, the previous vintages also performing well, winning trophies and golds. This wine and their second label the '99 Rows' Pinot Noir, also a gold medal winner at the show, are classical Martinborough expressions showing great depth and interest. Well done!
