Club of Tinakori met for its monthly luncheon at Martin Bosley’s Yacht Club
Restaurant. Following is the menu and

BEEFSTEAK &
BURGUNDY CLUB
The Beefsteak & Burgundy Club organization
was founded in Adelaide
in 1954 with the aim of its members sharing knowledge and experiencing great
wines and food and fellowship on a regular basis. The clubs are an amazing
success with over 150 branches around the world in countries as diverse as Brazil, Canada,
Denmark, Japan, the U.K.
and the U.S.A.
In New Zealand there are ten
branches, with five located in the Wellington
area. The meetings are run on a semi-formal basis, with officers and a running
committee including a Foodmaster and Winemaster who co-ordinate the meals and
wines respectively. A parent body overseas administration and maintains a
constitution to provide a framework and uniformity, but it’s all fun attending
the meetings and the occasional international conventions. For more
information, go to

where you can find out about joining an existing club or forming a new branch.

Wine
Lawson’s Dry Hills Marlborough Riesling 2007
This is classic dry Riesling, in the wonderful Eden Valley
mould, The quality of this wine is a tribute to Ross Lawson, one of Marlborough’s pioneers
and screwcap closure supporter, who passed away in January 2009. Trophy for Champion Riesling at the 2009 Air
N.Z. Wine Awards. Made from fruit from
the Waihopi Valley, this has very refined, but
intense aromas of limes with toasty bottle-age notes. Dry, very fine textured and possessing great
line and length. 12.5% alcohol and only
6.0 g/L residual sugar
Terrace Edge Waipara Pinot
Gris 2009
The Chapman family in Waipara grow beautifully ripe,
flavour-packed grapes that are highly sought after by the likes of Pegasus Bay and Muddy Water. However, the very best fruit is reserved for
their own Terrace Edge label, the wines made by star winemaker Belinda Gould of
Muddy Water. This 2010 Royal Easter Show
gold medal winner is packed with honied, spiced pear aromas and flavours. The wine is warm and rich at 14.0% alc and
carries 14.0 g/L residual sugar, which adds a succulence to the palate. Delicious!
Coopers
Creek ‘Swamp
Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2008
The ‘Swamp Reserve’ label has been the icon prestige
Chardonnay label for Coopers
Creek for over two
decades and must rate as one of this country’s leading examples of the
variety. The fruit has been sourced from
the company’s ‘Middle Road’
vineyard near Havelock North since the early 1990s and consistently provides
outstanding fruit. This 2008 was awarded
5 stars and Top 10 in ‘Cuisine’. 100%
barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc, the wine was aged 10 months in 40% new French
oak, and underwent 100% MLF. This has
gorgeously rich and concentrated grapefruit-like flavours complexed by mealy,
nutty elements along with subtle toasty oak nuances. Richly textured, layers of flavours open in
the glass.
