Our
retail man David Hughes attended Bob Campbell’s French Wine Certificate course on
Monday 12 April. Though David has pretty
decent knowledge of the wines of the world (that’s why he’s one of our good
staff members), he felt that he would learn a great deal from Bob. He was not disappointed. “It gave me a greater insight into the main
winegrowing regions of France”
he said. “And importantly, he showed us
how French wines differ in taste from the New Zealand wines we are more used
to. French wines have layers of flavour;
they are more subtle and complex, and they have texture.” “Bob kept the evening flowing; he was
brilliant!” David said. That’s high
praise indeed from one of our more discerning and critical personnel, who
strives to give you the best in his own recommendations.
In the
French Wine Certificate course, Bob works through all the major wine producing
regions of France
providing a succinct snapshot of each, covering wine styles, varieties, soils,
weather, production, classifications and other significant features. On his tour of the regions, Bob tastes good
examples of the wines demonstrating his points.
As a Master of Wine, Bob’s comments and insights are invaluable. The following wines were shown at the course:
