Chateau De Beaucastel Chateauneuf-Du-Pape 2006 Limited Release

We have just released our allocation of the 2006 vintage of Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape, arguably the most elegant, complex and long-lived of all the great southern Rhone wines. The high proportion of Mourvedre as well as the inclusion of all 13 permitted varieties contributes to its unique personality. The 2006 Beaucastel has turned out to be one of the great vintages of this label, there being no ‘Hommage a Jacques Perrin’ made this year, possibly adding to the quality of this ‘regular’ label. Robert Parker Jr says in The Wine Advocate Issue 179: “Beaucastel’s 2006 Chateauneuf-du-Pape is performing even better from bottle than it did last year. Its dense plum/ruby/purple colour is followed by a big, sweet perfume of black truffles, camphor, earth, incense, new saddle leather and loads of peppery, blackberry, and herb-infused meaty, black cherry fruit. Deep, full-bodied and dense, with sweet tannin, this explosively rich Chateauneuf is a stronger effort than the 2005, 2004 or 2003. Anticipated maturity 2012-2028.” 95 points. Quantities are limited.
