Cuisine Restaurant Awards - A Fine Time To Dine In Wellington
Right smack bang in the middle of Wellington on a Plate, local eateries have
fared very well in Cuisine’s latest 2010 Restaurant of the Year Awards.
Taking top honours for Best
Neighbourhood Restaurant was Ambeli in Majoribanks St, Mount Victoria.
Judges praised the relaxed atmosphere and made special mention of chef Sam
Pope’s Jerusalem artichoke soup with chorizo sausage and the beautifully
prepared desserts. The judges loved Ambeli so much that they gave owner and host
Shae Moleta the Restaurant Personality award, citing his professionalism and
fantastic repartee.
In the Smart Dining
Metropolitan category, Martin
Bosley’s was runner up behind perennial national benchmark The French Cafe.
The judges rightly praised Bosley’s mastery of seafood as well as his “polished
and extremely knowledgeable” support staff and extensive wine list. One of the
judges paid Bosley’s the ultimate compliment by describing his snapper as
“perhaps the best I’ve eaten.”

St Wellington’s hottest
dining address, as well as reinforcing Wellington’s
mastery of seafood, Ortega Fish Shack
& Bar got runner up in the Specialist Restaurant category. The judges
praised its “grown up attitude” and sophisticated way of doing things, as well
as “its casual-chic atmosphere and youthful energetic service.”
