Ornellaia
2008 THE HIGHEST RATED ORNELLAIA EVER
across 23 vintages by James Suckling 98/100
Robert
Parker’s Wine Advocate 96+/100(Wine
Advocate’s 2nd highest rating ever across 23 vintages)
2008
Ornellaia has received its highest score ever from James Suckling, who was
until July last year the Senior Editor & European chief responsible for
Italian wine for Wine Spectator Magazine and now has his own on-line
publication to compete with Robert Parker.
All previous Wine Spectator scores for Ornellaia have been determined by
him. He writes:"I love Ornellaia. Amazing aromas of currants,
blackberries, and hints of vanilla cream. Licorice too. Full bodied, with soft
and velvety tannins and an amazing depth of fruit. Balanced and super long. I
can't get over the wonderful texture to this young red. It touches every inch
of your palate and caresses it. Leave it for four or five years still, but it's
hard not to drink.”
The
score of 98/100 exceeds all Wine Spectator scores for any wine, from any
country, for the 2008 vintage, including First Growth Bordeaux and all other
Italian wine and reflects the estates philosophy of "quality without compromise”.
Furthermore, based on a price to points awarded ratio for the past ten years
Ornellaia rates as the best value fine wine in the world.

"Ornellaia
2008 is a wine
of exceptional intensity and is the most powerful Ornellaia I’ve ever tasted . From a harvest that was low in quantity but
high in concentration the colour is remarkably dark and opaque while the nose
offers stunningly rich, ripe fruit and the classic balsamic and tobacco leaf
notes that characterise the Bolgheri terroir . The palate is immensely deep, dense and
richly-layered with powerful but velvety tannins. A vintage with immediate
appeal but no-doubt good aging potential. This years assemblage is 54% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. It was aged for
18 months in barrique and over 1 year in bottle before release.” - Steve
