The Peregrine Central
Otago Pinot Noir 2007 continues its success with yet another top award. Announced yesterday, the wine won the
Winestate magazine Wine of the Year award after a blind taste-off of the top
300 rated wines from 12 categories from more than 10,000 Australian and New Zealand
wines tasted through the year. It is the
first time a New Zealand
wine has taken the grand champion award in the thirteen years of running the
Wine of the Year.
The 2007 Peregrine is one
of the most awarded New Zealand Pinot Noirs ever, having won golds at the
International Wine Challenge and International Wine & Spirits Competition,
both in London; Blue-Gold and Top 100 listing in the 2009 Sydney International
Wine Competition, golds at the 2008 Air N.Z. Wine Awards and Liquorland Top 100,
5 stars and rated 5th in the Top 2007 N.Z.Pinot Noirs in Cuisine and
94 points in Wine Business (Aus.) magazines.
Regional Wines has
selected the Peregrine Pinot Noir 2007 two years running as the prestige Pinot Noir
for our Top 30, having managed to obtain a final allocation of this multi-award
winning wine. This Christmas and summer
season will probably be the last opportunity of purchasing this wine, and we
urge you to not miss out. The
just-released 2008 Peregrine Pinot Noir looks to be among the top wines of Central Otago for this more problematic vintage. Keeping the yields low and fruit selection
were keys to high quality and Greg Hay and Peter Bartle ensured this for their
wine. While not as concentrated as the
2007, it has excellent dark cherry flavours and a harmony and balance that will
allow earlier accessibility and delicious drinking over the next 4-5 years. It will no doubt be an excellent follow-on
from the 2007.
With Peregrine in mind,
it is timely to mention the Peregrine tasting at ZEALANDIA on Thursday 26
November, where you can taste a full range of Peregrine wines and enjoy the
Karori Sanctuary experience. Proceeds
from the event and wine purchases will go to ZEALANDIA and the preservation of
our rare wildlife. Click here for more
