As part of our Summer of Riesling, we’re
bringing you some wicked deals on great rieslings of all styles…
The inaugural
Riesling Challenge was held in 2010 and our Riesling Challenge mixed dozens have
been flying out the door at the preposterous price of $179.95.
For those who
missed it, the 2010 Riesling Challenge involved 12 of the best riesling winemakers
dividing up 50-odd tons of Waipara riesling and making a wine in any style they
pleased. From the feedback I’ve had, both the sweet and dry styles have found favour
but Simon Waghorn from Astrolabe’s wine has been particularly well received.
Designated ‘sweet’ on the back label I think I would call it more medium to
taste, so good is the acid and drinkability at only 9.5% alcohol.
The flavour profile
comes across as cherry blossom, citrus fruit, honeysuckle and musk and
practically cries out to be paper bagged and taken for a delicious BYO meal at
the Majestic Chinese Restaurant on Courtenay
Place. We’ve managed to secure a deal on the wine
and so we’re selling it at the almost disrespectful price of $12.95 a bottle or
just $11.66 on a case buy ($139.95). If I were your stock broker I would have
my phone propped against my shoulder and be yelling ‘buy buy buy’ while staring
up at that big screen with all the share prices on it.
You’d be wise to
get in on this deal soon as February and March are looking hot and extremely Riesling
friendly…
