You don’t
have to be an expert to pick good wine. We have experts to pick it for you.
Every three months we select 12 wines that we think are value for money, pop
them in a box, and send them off to you to enjoy. It’s called the Ezy Peezy
Wine Club.
Most of the wines are from New
Zealand – some from new, and some from
well-established wineries – but we do include some overseas wines from time to
time. Average cost is $16 to $18 a bottle, after taking about 10% off retail
prices, and we include notes about each wine so you can impress your friends or
dinner guests.
We charge your credit card monthly over three months so you don’t have one
large charge. This covers the cost of the wine and a small courier fee (less
than $3.00 for the Wellington
area). If you have a preference or an aversion for any particular styles of
wines, or if you prefer more reds than whites – or the other way round – let us
know, and we’ll personalise your Ezy Peezy selection.
From the July
Ezy Peezy offering, Regional’s wine advisor Raymond Chan will overlook the
selection process to take it up a level.
With over 20 years wine judging experience and over 30 years of wine
enjoyment, we are certain that the Ezy Peezy wines chosen will be thoroughly
enjoyed by you, and offer greater value.
There have
been a number of enquiries regarding the possibility of a ‘Premium Ezy Peezy’
with wines averaging around the $25.00 cost, to provide a more interesting and
higher quality selection. Regional Wines
will offer a ‘Premium Ezy Peezy’ from October, with similar options for
personalised preferences, such as ‘mainly whites’ or ‘all reds’ as is currently
offered with the regular ‘Ezy Peezy’.
To join the Ezy Peezy Wine Club, for the regular or premium selections, contact
Ian on Tel: (04) 385-6952 or email
him with your name, delivery address, contact details and credit card
information. And if your circumstances change, or aren’t happy with the choices
made, you can call it off any time. It’s just like Christmas every three
months. It’s Ezy Peezy!
The next Ezy Peezy Wine Club selection will be issued in October.
Following are the Ezy Peezy selections for July 2010:
Konrad Marlborough Sauvignon
Blanc 2009
Konrad
Hengstler settled in Marlborough to make
Sauvignon Blanc, the wine style he fell in love with in his native Germany. His Waihopi and Wairau vineyards produce fine
fruit to make a restrained, but clear-cut gooseberry and minerally Loire style, perfect with all seafoods and soft
cheeses. Elegant at 12.5% alc, it
includes 3% barrel-ferment for complexing smoky nuances. Drink over 3-4 years.
Redmetal Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay
2009
The
Redmetal Chardonnay has become the perfect pairing for Grant Edmond’s Redmetal
Merlot/Franc, after all, that’s what Hawke’s Bay does best! This is up-front, fruit-driven dry white wine
with grapefruit and ripe yellow stonefruit flavours on a soft, but decently
weighted palate, given extra interest with lees-stirring and gentle oak
input. 13.0% alc, drink with any food
over the next 3-5 years.
Mt Beautiful Cheviot
Hills Pinot Gris 2009
David
and Leigh Teece could not ask for a better inaugural release of Pinot Gris from
their vineyards in Cheviot, North Canterbury. Made by award-winning winemaker Sam Weaver,
this is 13.5% alc and carries only 5.4 g/L rs after a 30% warm
barrel-ferment. Dry to taste, this is
rich and succulent with honey, spiced pear flavours, lovely weight and
textures. An all-purpose food wine to
enjoy 4-5 years.
Appleby Lane Nelson Syrah 2009
This
must be the best-value Syrah ever made in New Zealand. Dark purple red, it has aromas and flavours
of spiced black fruits, white and black pepper, plums and liquorice. Medium-weighted at 13.2% alc, this is soft
and supple and a model for friendliness.
90% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Moutere clays, this is an
export label for Te Mania. Perfect with
pizza! 3-4 years.
CJ Pask ‘Gimblett Road’ Cabernet/Merlot/Malbec
2007
No
other wine style can match roasted red meats better than that made from the Bordeaux varietals.
Intense, rich, blackcurrant cassis, plum and cedar flavours and a fine, firmly
structured palate perfectly meld with the food textures. 14.0% alc, Gimblett Gravels fruit aged 14
months in oak, this will become more complex and cedary with bottle age. The wine will keep 5-7 years. Made by Kate Radburnd.
Stonyfell ‘Metala’ Langhorne
Creek Shiraz/Cabernet 2008
A
history-packed Aussie label, Stonyfell’s Metala Shiraz/Cabernet won the
inaugural Jimmy Watson trophy in 1962!
This 2008 captures that glory with its jam-packed violet, plum,
liquorice and pepper aromas and flavours and fine-grained tannin structure that
will see it live 8-10 years, while matching rich meat dishes. 72% Shiraz
and 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15 months in oak and a big 15.0% alc.
