Cape Mentelle Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (17.5-/20), made from 96% CS, 2% CF, 1% PV and 1% Me, aged for 18 months in 25% new French oak. A wine rated ‘Excellent’ in Langton’s Classification, this was full and broad with the aromas and flavours of blackcurrants, mint and eucalypt. The wine had plenty of weight and extract, and the flavours a little shy in expression, leaving the structure standing out. This is more ‘Aussie’ than varietal, and will handle bottle age for another 5-7 years. RC Nov 08
