Carrick Pinot Noir Excelsior 06

Carrick ‘Excelsior’ Pinot Noir 2006 (19.0-/20), 13.5% alc, c.15% whole bunch, 18 months in 50% new French oak. Dark deep, full, ruby red with a touch of garnet to the colour. This is elegant, concentrated yet densely constructed on the bouquet with soft red fruits with a touch of savoury, forest secondary expression showing. Soft, full and richly fruited on palate, this has dense dark, savoury red fruits, florals and secondary elements, some distinct oak merging with the dark fruit nuances. This has excellent texture and grip for backbone, but all beautifully supple and rounded. A little bit of hedonism here with a wine that is almost a ‘big softie’, but with class to carry it.
