Ch. d’Yquem, Sauternes 1er Grand Cru, 2001
80% Se, 20% Sa, 121.5 ha, 9,100 cases
Brilliant colour, light golden yellow with depth. A nose of great depth and concentration of gorgeously rich lanolin Semillon fruit, honey and marmalade botrytis. A strong volatile lift on bouquet. Very sweet, this has incredible depth, the concentration is remarkable, and all the components are tightly bound at present. The palate is exceptionally fine grained with some grip and a little phenolic firmness from the extract, but the lusciousness and richness of waxy, nuttied, honied, flavours amazing. The acid balance is excellent. The volatile lift not so expressive on palate. This is a great wine that will live well by way of its classic structure and style. 19.5-/20 RC Oct 06
