Chateau d’Yquem
Sauternes 2003
1er GC, 80% Se, 20% Sa, 103.3 ha, 9,150 cases. Light golden yellow colour, fullish with
depth. Wonderfully rich on nose with
decadent honey and lanolin aromas of great depth and concentration. The bouquet is superbly poised, with
absolutely no excesses. Citrus fruits,
marmalade, pineapple, waxy and lanolin contribute to the complexity. Very ripe and little evidence of botrytis
though. Very sweet on palate, this is
soft, rich and densely packed with honey and waxy lanolin flavours with citrus
and marmalade flavours, luscious and sweetly succulent, the flavours have a
restraint. The body, weight and
concentration are sensational, but the acidity is lower than ideal. However, a sweet wine of great presence,
especially bouquet. 19.0/20 (RP: 95-100/100) RC Sept 07
