CHAPOUTIER CH-NEUF CROIX 06

Chapoutier Ch-Neuf Croix 06

$93.00 750 MLS
Chapoutier Chateauneuf-du-Pape ‘Croix de Bois’ 2006 (18.5/20), at 15.0% alc, all Grenache from 5 ha in the Bedarrides area, SE of the town Deep ruby red with garnet hues, this had an attractively aromatic and ethereal bouquet of fresh raspberry fruit. Some alcohol heat came through, but the purity and lusciousness was the feature. Perfumed and detailed, the extraction was supple and very fine-featured. Long and nuanced on the finish.  RC March 10

The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois reveals an intense Provencal herb character as well as peppery, roasted meat, garrigue, and kirsch liqueur notes, full body, good richness, and a long finish. Chapoutier’s single vineyard Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois comes from the eastern sector in the Bedarrides region. Chapoutier has adjusted the manner in which he ages this cuvee, and it is now completely aged in tank. Yields for this offering (made from 100+-year-old Grenache vines in the Galets Roulets area) are typically less than .5 tons of fruit per acre. The Croix de Bois IS 100% Grenache. Rating: 92 Drink - Robert Parker WA #179 (Oct 2008)

Easter weekend I flew up to Auckland and had a great time visiting family. I made sure I went to Maison Vauron, a must if you enjoy French wines and also Galbraiths to try a few craft beers.

Roast Chicken for dinner evidently. Which Kumeu River Chardy shall I choose?
