Church Rd Chard Res 08

$38.30 750 MLS
Church Road Reserve Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2008 (19.0+/20), at 14.0% alc, with 2.0 g/l rs, was sourced from 31% Tuki Tuki, 27% Omaranui and 42% Brooklands vineyards using two thirds Clone 95 and the remainder Clone 15, wild yeast fermented and aged 14 months in 49% new French barriques. Light golden yellow colour, this was full, rich and dense on nose with mealy, tropical fruit and toasty oak, all in harmony. More elegant on palate than expected, this has a crisp and piercing acidity lending the wine finesse. While still rich with up-front, ripe stonefruit flavours and displaying power, there was a tightness indicating the potential to develop and reveal more.  RC Apr 10
