Craggy Range ‘The Quarry’ Gimblett Gravels 2006 (19.5-/20), at 14.2% alc, a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignojn, 4% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, inoculated yeasts, aged 21 months in 84% new French oak, was still very youthful in appearance with purple hued black red colour. Super-rich, lush black fruits, plums and spices with plenty of new oak flowed on bouquet. On palate, an extremely powerful and densely packed wine with flavours of sumptuous black fruits, earth and graphite, laced with plenty of new oak, all resting on a massive, hugely extracted framework. A wine of enormous size and dimension that will age 20+ years easily.  RC June10
