D'arenberg Shiraz Footbolt 08

d’Arenberg ‘Footbolt’ Shiraz 2008 (18.0+/20), at 14.5% alc, aged 12 months in U.S. and French barriques and large casks, some new, was purple-hued ruby red in colour with an elegant, slightly shy bouquet of peppery black fruits enhanced by some spice. Supple, juicy and plumy on the palate, this had good concentration with sweet, spicy fruit, pepper and eucalypt in classical Shiraz fashion. Drink over the next 5-6 years. RC July 10

Named after a racehorse, this wine is a frisky wee filly. Spicy, lifted floral nose with intense chewy berries building to a complex graphite and roasted meat finish. Only brave jockeys need apply. AC July 10
