The Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 (17.0/20) 13.4% alc, from the Coal River region is held in esteem and is the company’s flagship. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, was aged 24 months in new French oak. It possessed aromas of tobacco, leather, cassis and brettanomyces was also evident. The palate was, however, rich, ripe and succulent with elegant tannins and gentle acidity. At this stage there was no drying out or excessive animal characters. Concentrated flavours on palate and fine, silky tannin mouthfeel were positive attributes. A wine that would be food friendly. SD/RC June 09
