Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos des Mouches’ 2007 (17.5/20), at 13.5% alc, domaine fruit, vines 45 y.o., Drouhin has 6.82 ha of Chardonnay planted, the wine aged 12-15 months in 25% new oak. Bright, light lemony straw yellow in colour, this was full and broad on bouquet, open, solid and deep, with complex aromas of stonefruits, minerals, nuts, lees work and sulphides plus oak spice. A full and robust wine, this had a rugged richness, rather than class and style. This will need 4-6 years to come together, and then keep another 5+ easily.  RC June 10
