Probably the classiest and most serious Pinot Noir that Andrew and his team have ever made, and it stands tall among what we’ve seen come out of Marlborough. The aim was to build in serious structure. Fruit sourced from a clay-soiled site, fermented to 14.5% alc, but given a total of 28 days on skins, matured for 15 months in 35% new French oak. Dark fruited with real depth, matched with noticeable oak. The extraction is indeed serious, but fine-grained. Air time sees the fruit sweetness and floral, red berry characters unfold. This should age 6-8 years and more. 150 dozen made.  RC June 10
