JIM BARRY SHIRAZ THE ARMAGH 07

Jim Barry Shiraz The Armagh 07

$245.05 750 MLS
Sight: Dense and purple. Smell:  An elegant and aristocratic kaleidoscope of aromas. An abundance of fruit - blackberry, mulberry and blueberry. Supporting complexity of mint, eucalypt, rhubarb, turkish delight and cinnamon. Taste:  A rich tapestry of enjoyment and fulfilment. The introduction - raspberry, strawberry and boysenberry. The closing argument - star anise, rosemary, spearment and clove. Line, length and delivery - Encompassing and welcoming. Sumptuous and sensual. Time:  A wine hand crafted with the Jim Barry philosophy to be enjoyed upon release but demands a long sleep in the cellar to allow the wine to demonstrate all that it beholds.

I tried this wine at the Negociants Roadshow and was very impressed. Jim Barry wines are certainly not for the faint of heart, (talking to Peter Barry for a moment about red wine, especially cabernet, will clear up any confusion) but the Armagh has extremely good freshness and line to balance its massive concentration and power. I wouldn't (but you might) open the Armagh 2007 for at least 8 years from vintage but expect it to be at its peak some time around the end of this decade. AC Aug 2011
