Kidnapper Cliffs Syrah 10

Fine Syrahs range in style between the medium weighted, floral and spicy and the more muscular, darker berry fruit flavours. Our terroir and conservative winemaking leads us in the direction of the former. The aromas of this wine are delicately lifted in the black currant/white pepper spectrum and while the way it is made accentuates fruit purity, one can still detect the vanilla/clove notes from the barrels and the meaty nuance from aging on yeast lees. A gentle skin maceration during ferment has resulted in a lively palate which preserves the florals and black fruits first introduced in the bouquet. This wine is drinking well now but Syrah does have a deserved reputation as a cellaring wine. It would be well worth holding a few bottles aside and following the evolution of this wine over the next few years.
