Klein Constantia ‘Vin de Constance’ 2004 (18.5/20), at 14.2% alc, made from shrivelled Muscat de Frontignan, with no botrytis, partially barrel-fermented, with 130 g/L rs. Deep, full, golden straw yellow in colour, this had an intense and complex bouquet of raisins and fresh grapes and floral notes with lavender prominent. Very rich and sweet on entry, this had a soft lusciousness, quite grapy with honey, raisins and nuts developing on the finish. Secondary savoury complexities were just appearing, this had a fine, long finish. This will drink well for a decade. A tribute to the old and historical wines of Constantia in the past. RC May 10
