Lehmann Shiraz Barossa 08

Peter Lehmann Barossa Shiraz 2008 (18.5/20), at 14.5% alc, aged 12 months in French and American oak hogsheads. Youthful purple-red colour with good depth, this had a beautifully rich and lush nose of well-ripened berry fruits laced with black pepper and hints of liquorice. Plush and plump on palate, yet with an elegant proportion and supple structure from ripe tannins, the fruit sweetness was the feature. Plums, pepper and chocolate all vibrantly expressed with well-balanced oak spices just showing. This is truly an ultra user-friendly wine that will win friends over the next 4-8 years. Drink with any red meat dish, pizza, pasta and hard cheeses. Around 140,000 cases made annually.  RC May 10
