Peter Lehmann ‘The Futures’ Shiraz 2007 (17.5/20), at 14.0% alc, aged 15 months in French oak hogsheads. Named after the 1980 wine sold as ‘futures’, released two years after payment, providing cashflow for the new winery! Bright, deep ruby red with purple hues to the colour. This was tight and shy on the nose, with black fruits, pepper and mint showing. A wine with good concentration and depth, the dark berry fruits were framed with firm tannins, resulting in a dry and slightly austere expression. There is fruit intensity, which will require some bottle age to open out. 5-7 years easily.  RC May 10
