Lustau ‘Don Nuno’ Oloroso (18.5-/20), full mahogany in colour with
depth. Soft and dense on bouquet, this
had nuts, raisins and brown fruits and warm savoury elements showing, alongside
rancio complexity and a touch of volatility.
Dry on palate, this was full-flavoured, showing a little too much cut
from both alcohol spirit and brash acidity.
Good depth and excellent length. RC July 10
One of the most elegant and refined
Oloroso sherries I have come across. Oloroso is a style that can be overly
broad, but the ‘Don Nuno’ carries excellent freshness and acidity allied to the
complex nutty, soft raisin flavours. This has the depth, cut and length to make
it extremely versatile with all richer, or main course
foods. RC April 08
Braised Marinated Pork
Belly; Butterbeans and Paprika, Rocket and Hazelnut Picada, and Crusty Bread - Oloroso sherries vary considerably in style, sweetness
being one major difference. This dry. The Lustau ‘Don Nuno’ Oloroso (18.0/20) was
indeed an archetype version, quite elegant, but with good richness, possessing
nuttiness, cut, but also raisiny notes.
Interestingly, while the sherry did not clash with the dish, there was
no appreciable lift to wine or food. RC April 08
‘Solera Reserva – Don Nuno’ Oloroso was full and soft, rich and broad, but lacking in
liveliness, seeming a little dulled and flat (my score 17.0+/20). RC May 07
