the Mt Difficulty ‘Long Gully’ Pinot Noir 2008 (19.5-/20), at 13.5% alc, 20% whole clusters, aged in barrel for 14 months. Bright ruby red colour with some garnet hues, very even. This had an intense, ethereal bouquet of florals and red fruits, with spicy nuances unfolding with air time. Rich, plush, juicy and quite distinctively succulent on palate, this was silky smooth in texture, the fine tannin extraction supporting the fruit. Excellent acidity provided liveliness and some oak was noticeable. But wonderful balance and lusciousness through the line and length of the palate. An overall elegance. This will keep for 6-8+ years.  RC Sept 10
