Boy this 2009 Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir is a stunner. It’s a bold and upfront wine that just keeps getting more and more expressive as it comes to terms with the smell of freedom. My tasting notes say smoked bacon, grippy dusty tannins, pastrami, mustard and manuka honey – but as with all great wines, descriptors don’t do it justice. It’s about vibrancy, life and unresolved romantic tension. Grab a bottle and drink a toast to being alive with some friends you haven’t seen in a while.

Drink with: Seasoned lamb racks, Asian-style red meats

Smoked bacon, grippy dusty tannins, pastrami, mustard and manuka honey. A fantastically complex pinot noir that gets better and better with time in the glass. You can see why Mt D are one of the benchmarks for the $40 pinot in NZ. 19.0-/20 AC Aug 11
