Sileni ‘Exceptional Vintage’ Pourriture Noble Riesling Marlborough 2008 (19.0/20), 11.4% alc and 183 g/l rs. This fruit was initially turned down but due the exceptionally dry vintage in Hawke’s Bay, Sileni re-looked at this fruit – fortunately. Delicious florals on the nose with lovely grapefruit and lemon on the palate. Plenty of noble rot. The wine had beautiful concentration but the sweet fruit on the front is balanced with the nice dry clean finish. Excellent acidity was a highlight and the wine would work very well with a range of sweeter food courses. The ‘Exceptional Vintage’ wines figure among the best of Sileni, and this is no exception. The Exceptional Vintage Pourriture Noble shows intense marmalade, dried necatirne and lemon honey aromas with a rich, mouth filling sweetness on the palate. A decadent style of dessert wine with beautifully balanced acidity. Cellar for 6 years or more.
