Te Mata 'Bullnose' Syrah 2007 (19.5+/20), at 13.5% alc, 16 months in new and seasoned French barriques. Bright, purple-hued ruby red colour. This has the most beautiful ans amazingly fine, packed bouquet of florals and spices. The palate is one of great elegance and purity of varietal expression, with spicy dark fruits and amazing floral nuances. This has great finesse in extraction, and is beginning to integrate with the fruit sweetness. Complexing savoury nuances showing. RC Sept 10
Te Mata ‘Bullnose’ Syrah 2007 (19.0/20) at 13.5% alc. was youthfully purple in
colour. Intense, fresh, with lifted
perfumes of white and black pepper, there were complex savoury nuances to the
bouquet. Full, lively and fresh with
rich boysenberry like flavours, this had a tight structure with considerable
tannin extract and concentration. The
wine will cellar for a decade easily. RC Nov 09
According to
Te Mata, the ‘Bullnose’ Syrah continues to improve with depth and concentration
as the vines age. They are extremely
pleased with the progress and the Te
Mata ‘Bullnose’ Syrah 2007 (19.0+/20) is the best since the first vintage
in 1992. Three clones used, 16 months
maturation in new and seasoned oak has yielded a wine at 13.5% alc, with deep,
dark, black and purple hues to ruby red, a softly fine and refined nose with
florals, black and red fruits, pepper and spices. With very fine-grained tannins, this is no
blockbuster, but elegant and highly concentrated and with great length. The wine has a subtle richness lifting it to
a new level. RC March 09
