CLOS DE L'OBAC PRIORAT 06
Here's a wine to wow right now or to age for the very long term.
Clos de l’Obac is a classic Priorat red with its massive power, structure and complexity, which is the result of a diversity of orientations and altitudes of seven vineyards around the town of Gratallops. The Cariñena and Grenache were planted over 50 years ago and give this wine its unmistakable Priorat character of dark cherry fruit flavours supported by smooth tannic structure and power.
It's a blend of 35% Grenache, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 10% Merlot and 10% Cariñena.
The Oxford Companion to Wine describes reds from Priorat as one of Spain's most inspiring red wines and we agree. Priorat is one of only two regions in Spain to qualify for the highest ranking of wine quality, the country's DOCA and wines from here are typically a blend led by Garnacha and Cariñena, made from grapes grown on iron rich red soils on steep slopes in an isolated corner of Catalunya.
