LIME HILL PINOT NOIR WAIRARAPA 17

LIME HILL PINOT NOIR WAIRARAPA 17

Lime Hill Pinot Noir is made from a small vineyard of .8 of a hectare situated on the road to Castlepoint in the northern Wairarapa. The first vintage was in 2016 and the brand is a  collaboration between winemakers Karl Johner (of Johner Wines at Gladstone) and Raphael Burki, who have been making wine together since 2009.

The hillside from which the grapes in this wine are grown is owned by a local farm and faces north-west with a soil composition very similar to Burgundy, France, due to its high content of limestone and a small top layer of clay. These conditions are regarded as ideal for growing great Pinot Noir grapes. And being a hillside and small production, 100% of the grapes in this wine are hand harvested then fermented on skins for three weeks with 20% whole bunch.

Maturation is in French oak (20% new) for 12 months and the wine is bottled without any filtering or fining. It is vegan friendly.

This is next next level Pinot Noir from a great vineyard, a great (and small) wine region and an exceptionally talented winemaking duo.
