"From the famous Demerara region beside the Atlantic Ocean, Plantation Guyana is the result of extra-long fermentation and pot-still distillation. Aged for long years in bourbon casks, it reveals an incomparable richness of aroma and flavor. The nose is powerful and complex, with notes of peat and cigar, balanced by subtle vanilla notes. The palate is remarkable for its balance and refinement. Lots of fruity, oaky and smoky aromas mingle harmoniously." Source: Demerara rum - made on the banks of the Demerara River, in Guyana, mainland South America. Typically Guyanese Rums have a deeper flavour than most - something you'd note in Demerara Sugar. There is a little more to it than that though, just like individual micro-climates can greatly influence wines, that same thing happens with rum, particularly in the ageing. Most distillers in Guyana use wooden Coffey stills - which aren't particularly common around the world.;
