Collemassari Montecucco Riserva 2017
A wine from the Montecucco appellation in Tuscany which was only recently promoted to DOCG despite having made wine since the time of the Etruscans in the 8th century. Montecucco is located between Montalcino, and Scansano, and benefits from warm a microclimate similar to both these regions. ColleMassari is now the major estate of the region and produced its first vintage in 2000.
This is a gutsy wine made with 80% Sangiovese, 10% Ciliegiolo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Spontaneous fermentation was followed by a three to four week maceration before the wine was racked off into a combination of 40 litre oak vats and smaller oak tonneaux where it was further aged for 18 months.
