ELEPHANT HILL TEMPRANILLO EARTH 15

ELEPHANT HILL TEMPRANILLO EARTH 15

Elephant HIll winery is on the coast at Te Awanga, south of Napier. This cooler climate is ideally suited to producing crisp, fresh, dry white wines and while reds can do well here, this winery has chosen to add the insurance policy of sourcing grapes from vineyards further inland in this region. Hence, this ripe and juicy Tempranillo is made from grapes grown in the Bridge Pa Triangle on the western side of Hawke's Bay's Heretaunga Plains. All grape were hand harvested and fermented in small batches from one to five tonnes in a combination of traditional open top oak cuves and stainless open top fermenters. The wine includes 25% of whole bunch ferments in total. All were hand plunged and the wine was aged for 26 months in three year old oak barriques to add softness and approachability rather than oak flavours.
