MAZZEI FONTERUTOLI CHIANTI CLASSICO 18
Mazzei has been making wine since 1435 and now makes wine from the high tech winery based in Fonterutoli Winery with sweeping views from the small town out to Sienna.
The grapes for this wine come from a vareity of parcels spread across a unique range of soil and climate types, at an altitude from 220 to 570 metres above sea level in the heart of the Chianti Classico area.
The assemblage is 90% Sangiovese, 5% Malvasia Nera and 5% Colorino, the grapes are handpicked and spend a maceration period of 16 - 18 days prior to a warmish ferment between 26 - 28 °C. Ageing is for 12 months in French oak barrels (225 and 500 lt) and the wine finishes for 30 - 45 days in concrete tanks.
Beautifully proportioned and elegant with dark berry, fresh spice flavors and superb intensity.
