Black Cottage Rose is Dave Clouston’s brainchild and was inspired after long hot summers spent in Corsica and the south of France where he made, light bodied, dry and  salmon pink wines from deeply coloured, thick skinned red grapes. These styles of wines are ideal for drinking chilled in summer, not only in the Meditteranean but also right here in New Zealand, which is home to this wine. 

It's made from grapes grown in Marlborough's hot summer days, which are balanced by fresh acidity from the region's cool nights. 

This is one of our best sellers and it's super easy to get hooked on its tasty summer berry flavours and dry style. 

WINEMAKING NOTES
This wine is a blend of 5 clones of Gewürztraminer each bringing their own distinct characteristics to this aromatic blend. Beautifully ripe fruit was harvested over several picks from late March through to early May. With minimal skin contact the juice was pressed off to tank and divided up into different ferments. The juices were cool fermented using a variety of different yeasts to get the best out of the Gewürztraminer aromatics. Racked and aged on light lees for 6 months prior to blending.

TASTING NOTES
Intense aromatics of ginger and spice, orange blossom and classic Turkish delight and lychee notes. The palate is rich and textured with tangelo and white peach flavours. With beautifully balanced acidity, this wine is dry and has a wonderfully long and full flavoured finish. An excellent match for Asian cuisine.

Winemaker's note:

"2015 was an exceptional vintage and the weather was consistent which allowed us to grow and ripen grapes to optimum quality. This blend is made of 72% Merlot, 20% Malbec and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon from grapes hand-picked off our Gimblett Vineyard (58%) and Triangle Vineyard (42%). 

After fermentation the wine was aged for 24 months in French oak (42% new), then blended and had a further 3 months on lees in tank. There was no racking which allow the wine to have great volume and weight.

This is a concentrated, medium to full bodied blend. With ripe blackberry and plum characters, fine grained tannins and a fresh acidity all giving the wine a wonderful balance. It will age well and improve for 10 years from vintage."

WINEMAKING NOTES

The fruit for this wine is a blend of Mendoza (42%), Clone 548 (24%), Clone 15 (21%) and Clone 95 (12%) grown on the sandy silt soils of the lower terrace of the Askerne vineyard. Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, the juice was transferred to barrel for fermentation. The barrels were a mixture of both wild and inoculated ferments and completed 100% malolactic post ferment.  The wine was subsequently aged for 10 months with lees stirring to add volume and complexity. The final blend has a 29% new French oak component, and 15% 2nd fill.

TASTING NOTE

Sweet scented with peach, lemon and hints of tropical pineapple, layered with complex notes of coconut, honied nuts and baked fruits.  The palate has wonderful concentration with tropical and stonefruit flavours on a backbone of rich oak spice and vibrant citrus acidity giving generous length.

This dry, full bodied, flavoursome Pinot Gris is something special from the deep south and was fermented with skin contact in amphora to bring a new dimension to one of the most popular grapes in the world right now. Domaine Rewa has hit a new high with the small production of this lovely wine. 

The most flavoursome Chardonnay barrels are selected after a year of aging and then blended together to make this pinnacle of Seresin's dry, full bodied white wines, the Reserve Chardonnay. The reserve wine spends another six months in old oak puncheons, gaining depth, complexity and integration of flavour thanks to this additional maturation.

The organic story at Seresin

One of the greatest things about Seresin Estate is the organic certification. This came relatively early on for Seresin, who was dismayed by the amount used and the impacts of man made chemicals, which were routinely and frequently sprayed on vines. His early adopting philosophy of organic certification paved a positive path for the integrity of the wines as well as leading others to follow suit.

Beautiful Chaos Pinot Noir embodies a minimalist, mindful way of winemaking. Luscious biodynamic Pinot Noir grapes have been fermented in a small clay amphora pot. The result is an incredibly ethereal and silky expression of Pinot Noir, that is supported by layers of lush red fruits. The wine has been bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Sir George Fistonich's new family wine project is Cuvar; Croatian for 'the guardian', which is a good description of his role in the New Zealand wine industry. This wine is a beautiful rich and creamy Chardonnay with balance from fresh acidity that adds length and depth of flavour. 

The Main Divide is the name of the Southern Alps in the South Island, which forms the backbone and divides each coast. It's also the name of a range of wines made by Pegasus Bay in North Canterbury, using 100% locally grown grapes.

The aim here is to make an Alsatian style of Pinot Gris. Grapes were picked at various stages of ripeness to create a wine with a broad flavour spectrum. All grapes were then fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve fruit aromas. The ferment was stopped to allow the wine to retain 10 grams per litre of residual sugar, creating an off dry, medium bodied, super flavoursome style of Pinot Gris. 

The wine was matured for a short time on its yeast lees (sur lie) pre bottling. 

Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are gently pressed into production to make this dry, medium bodied bubbly from Marlborough, which was fermented with wild yeasts and aged for 18 months in bottle on lees; the decomposing yeast cells following fermentation in the bottle. It contains 8.8 grams of residual sugar per litre and alcohol of 12.5% ABV, giving it a medium body and lovely balanced flavours. It’s made by Allan Scott and his winemaking team.

Here'a a glass of liquid sunshine in a fruity Chardonnay with a hint of oak adding depth to the revitalising fresh flavours of green apples, red apples and ripe grapefruit. This wine has a full body, dry flavours and crispness to burn, thanks to being made from Chardonnay vines grown on the coast at Te Awanga where the cool sea breezes retain freshness in the form of natural acidity in the grapes in this delicious wine. 

Clearview Estate...

Clearview Estate is one of oldest, most well established wineries in Hawke's Bay and is situated on the Te Awanga Coast, south of Napier. It's a great place to visit for tastings at the cellar door as well as lunch in the dappled shade of the established courtyard area. The winery was founded by Tim Turvey, winemaker and co-owner. The current winemaker is the multi talented Matt Kirby.

Off-dry in style. The nose shows notes of lychee, lemon zest, crushed lime leaf and rosewater. The palate is luscious and mouth-filling with a rich concentration, delicately balanced and exuding flavours of Turkish delight, lemon and spice. 

Maestro is made in the warmest vintages only in North Canterbury. It is a dense, dark, dry, full bodied blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a smidgeon of Malbec in for good measure.
