Bogle is best best known for its big, buttery, Californian Chardonnays so here is the red wine to match - a plush, soft, spicy and dark fruit tasting red made from the ZInfandel grape.

This grape is also known as Primitivo in Puglia, Southern Italy, and shares the same instant likeability of a big soft red for early drinking. It can hold and improve over the short to medium term; up to five years. 

Clay Creek Vineyards is part of a family owned winery which has been growing grapes since 1924. Sustainable farming practices are central to the family's firmly held belief that they are responsible for tending the earth using environmentally sensitive farming techniques.

The vineyards are predominantly located in the Lodi region of California wine country. Nestled alongside the Columbia River in eastern Washington, Columbia Crest winery opened its doors in the heart of the acclaimed Horse Heaven Hills in 1983.

This wine is 100% Chardonnay of which 36% of the blend was fermented in stainless steel tanks with no malolactic fermentation to showcase the bright acidity in the wine. The balance underwent weekly stirring in barrel allowing the wine to build complexity and structure.

Opens with fresh fruit aromas of baked apples and pears, joined by signature characters of crème brulee and caramel. Ripe orchard fruit flavors are joined by creamy, buttery notes and balanced by lively acidity.

The mysterious origins of the Zinfandel grape were uncovered in 2002 when DNA fingerprinting confirmed that Italy’s Primitivo and the slightly trickier to pronounce, Crljenak Kastelanski, an ancient Croatian variety, are genetically identical to Zinfandel. One grape, three different names and countries. And innumerable styles of different wines made from it - variety is the spice of life and of the wine lover's choice.

Light oak aging and fresh, balanced acidity make this chardonnay a must- have. The bouquet is soft with ripe honeydew, rich vanilla and hints of apple skin. The oak aging adds a nice complexity to the mouthfeel, layering zesty spice tones on top of crisp pear and guava flavour. On the back end, flavours of lemon peel meld with the creamy vanilla notes to create a refreshing and savoury finish.

This California grown Rhône varietal blend is focused and piquant with a smack of black pepper, lifted by the scent of dried roses. "The 2018 Christo is made up of 60% Syrah, 24% Grenache, 12% Petite Sirah and 4% Viognier. Vibrant ruby-purple in colour, the nose offers pure scents of crushed red, black and blue berries, tobacco, violets, tar and smoked meats. "The Crusher Petite Sirah is a deep, inky color with bold aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, and fig jam. The inviting aromas lead to a medium palate with a core of juicy fruit flavors, toasted hazelnut and baking spice notes. The wine spends 10 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak, giving the final blend a soft texture with fine, well-integrated tannins."
