When our mate Kengo from Yellow Monkey Brewing in Japan came over for Beervana, he dropped by the Miramar taproom for a pint and ended up sharing a masterclass in brewing with rice. Prime Mates is the result of that afternoon of shared knowledge. Kengo even sent over a special stash of genuine Japanese Sansho to seal the deal. It is a true meeting of minds, built on friendship, fresh ideas, and ingredients that push the boundaries.

Bach Brewing Crystal Cut Bright NZ IPA 440ml can

Over at Bach we've been on the hops again...plotting the comeback of bright, filtered beers.  Brewed for Smiths NZIPA Challenge in Queenstown, and crammed with Peacharine, Rakau, Motueka, Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin hops, this crystal-bright NZ IPA bursts with juicy peach, tropical fruit, fresh citrus and subtle white wine character. 

Clean bitterness, lean malt body and a crisp, refreshing finish.  Filtered for finesse.

Bach Brewing Galahad Holy Grail IPA 440ml can

Over at Bach we've been on the hops again...on a quest for the Holy Grail, we stopped for a pint along the way. 

This bright IPA is packed with El Dorado, Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe and Nectaron hops - citrus-forward, tropically unhinged, and nobly bitter.

6.5% - Spontaneously Fermented Black Doris Plum Sour

A blend of foeder and puncheon aged beers, fermented with our own house culture, and infused with juicy, ripe Central Otago Black Doris plums. The finished beer is a vibrant crimson, with a remarkable ripe plum aroma, and a lush tart fruit palate.
Bottle conditioned. Serve chilled. Pour carefully.

5% - Boysenberry & Blackcurrant Cider

It’s a capital collaboration. 100% whole fruit pressed ciders, one from Fruit Cru and the other from Wild Workshop, blended together and spiked with boysenberry and blackcurrant to create one colourful, mouthwateringly delicious, medium-dry, inner city cider. The big apple comes to little old Welly.

¡Hola! is the perfect pour with food of all shapes, sizes & spices. Light gold with white foam over minimal lacing, there’s a kiss of malt, a thread of maize & a soft lager ferment for a mouthful that’s crisp & dry. Finish just sweet enough & underpinned by a poquito of hops to cleanse the palate. “Uno mas, por favor. ” The afternoon is lazy, after all, & only just begun.

STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE HAZY IPA 5.7%

Wild strawberries greet you on the first sip with notes of ripe stone-fruit, melon and citrus joining the party thanks to the Huell Melon and Callista hops. Fruity aromatics are balanced by a soft and creamy body from the addition of oats, wheat and lactose. This beer goes down a treat - juicy, sweet and lavish!
